FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD TODAY AT ASSOCIATED CHURCH; BURIAL TO BE AT GRACE HILL

BLOW BY CROWBAR IS FATAL TO FARM WORKER

Harvey Finch, a former resident of Hawarden, died late Monday night in a Sioux Falls Hospital as a result of injuries received last Friday when a crowbar struck him in the abdomen. He was 29 years old.

Mr. Finch was working on the farm of his employer, Desmond Westberg, three miles south of Beresford. The two men were trying to move a large boulder. A chain around the rock was hitched to a tractor, and Mr. Finch was working with the crowbar when the tool slipped under tension, striking him a sideswiping blow across the midsection.

The injured man was taken to a Sioux Falls Hospital Saturday where internal injuries caused his death.

Funeral services will be held at the Wass Funeral Chapel at Beresford at 1:30 this afternoon and at the Associated Church in Hawarden at 3 o’clock With the Reverend Clarence W. Hanscom of Hawarden officiating. Burial will be made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Harvey Ambert Finch, son of W.A. Finch, was born February 2, 1913, on a farm northwest of Hawarden. He grew to a young manhood there and received his education in the rural schools of Union County. He assisted with the work on his father’s farm and was employed as a farm helper by others at various times.

He was united in marriage with Mrs. Helen Bliesbrock of Hawarden February 5, 1939, at Orange City. For the past year and a half he had been employed on the Desmond Westberg farm near Beresford.

Besides his wife he is survived by two children, Barbara and John William and one step-daughter, Mabel Biesbrock. John William is but three weeks old. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Finch and six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Ester Carpenter, Mrs. Florence Larson, Mrs. Ida Cooper and Ray Finch, all of Hawarden; Julius Finch of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Ralph Finch of Omaha. One sister, Mrs. Vernon March, preceded him in death.

Mr. Finch was a trustworthy employee and an efficient worker. His tragic death comes as a severe blow to his wife and other members of his family. Sincere sympathy is extended to them in their sorrow.
