Alton Democrat of Jul 15, 1927

Mrs. Fred Belling died Thursday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Emma Stutzman, following an illness of five years. Mrs. Belling has resided with Mrs. Stutzman since the death of Mr. Belling in April of last year. She was born in Hanover, Germany. January 17,1854, being 73 years of age at the time of her death. She came to America when she was 18 years old and lived with her brother at Hampton, ?., until her marriage to Mr. Fred Belling three years later. They came to Sioux county in 1884, settling on the farm northeast of town which was their home until about 10 years ago, when they moved to Sheldon.

Six children survive their mother as follows: Andrew Belling and Mrs. Emma Stutzman of Boyden; Mrs. Wes Beckman and Henry Belling of Chandler, Minn.; Mrs. Frank Conner of Nashua IA; and Mrs. Frank Wright of Santa Ana CA, all of whom were present at the funeral. One daughter, Anna, proceeded her mother in death several years ago.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Stutzman home and Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery. Rev. Flentje of the Lutheran church of Sheldon officiated. Our departed friend was a loving mother, a faithful wife, a conscientious neighbor and friend, and through all her trials of sickness and helplessness, maintained without faltering or complaining the beautiful Christian character and the simple faith which made her beloved by all who knew her. Many friends of the early days attended the last rites and the mass of flowers were an expression of the love and sympathy of all.

(The Sioux County cemetery Index lists Caroline Belling 1854-1927 Mrs. Fred buried Sheridan Township cemetery Boyden IA.)
