Mr. Gerrit Fikse passed away on January 12, 1944 at the age of 78 years. He was born on Nov. 23, 1S65, in the Netherlands. He came to America when he was about four years old. He came with his father, and the Wm. Bakker family.

After the death of his father, Mr. Fikse was adopted by Wm. Bakker. They moved to Pella after being in New Jersey for some time. In 1884 they moved to Sioux County, where seven years later, Wm. Bakker died.

At the age of 32 years, he married Mary Borgman. She died some years later in 1912 (actually in 1903). He then married Mrs. Antonia (Anna) Markus (Kots). In 1920 they moved to Orange City.

Surviving him are his -widow, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Tea Haken of Hull, Mrs. R. C. Jongewaard of Sioux Center and Mrs. J. H. Rozeboom
of Sioux Center.

(From the marriage record of Gerrit Fikser (Fikse ) age 32 son of Dirk Fikse and Jannetje Van Dyk or Dijk, married Mar 30 1899 to Mary Borgman in Sioux Center age 34 dau of Roelf Borgman and Reina Guideman or Zuidema. His father was born about 1829 as he was 42 in 1870 at his second marriage to Aaltje Mol, who died a year later. )

GERRIT FIKSE

Gerrit Fikse was born in the Netherlands on November 23, 1865. He never knew his mother, because she died in his infancy. He came to America when he was about four years of age. He came with his father and the William Bakker family.

His father died about four weeks after they had landed in America. Mr. Fikse was then adopted by William Bakker. They soon moved from New Jersey to Pella, Iowa. In 1884 they moved from Pella to Sioux County. About seven years later William Bakker died. Mr. Fikse then about nineteen years old cared for Mrs. Bakker and the family four about nine years.

At the age of 32 he married Mary Borgman. She died four years later. In 1912 he married Mrs. Antonia Markus (Kots). In 1920 they moved to Orange City. That was the year the Trinity Church was being build and they immediately united with this church.

Mr. Fikse died last Thursday evening at about 8:45 p.m. January 12, 1944 at the age of 78 years.

Surviving him are his widow and three sisters through adoption: Mrs. Albert Ten Haken of Hull; Mrs. R.C. Jongewaard of Sioux Center and Mrs. J.H. Rozeboom of Sioux Center.
