Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Van Roekel of Boyden, 85 years, seven months and 10 days of age, were held Sat. July 9, at 1;30 p.m. at the Boyden First Reformed Church, with interment at the Boyden Cemetery. Rev H.G. Schoon officiated. Arrangements were in charge of the Cooperative Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Pallbearers were six grandsons, Harvey Horn, Lake Wilson, MN. Norm Vander Lee, Rock Rapids; Allen Van Roekel, Sheldon; Harlan Ferwerda, Springfield, S.D.; Marvin Van't Hul and Lester Harman of Boyden.
Mrs. Ray Smit and Mrs. Lawrence Salmon sang, "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Organist was Mrs. Cornelius Slothouber.

Mrs. Van Roekel passed away at the Sheldon Hospital July 6, at 10:30 p.m. after a brief illness.

Mrs. John Van Roekel, nee Gertie Van Stryland, was born Nov. 26, 1880 in the Netherlands. When a girl she came to the U.S. with her parents and settled at Orange City.
