William Charles Grady Jr was born April 28, 1926 in Schuyler, Nebraska, the son of William Sr and Vera (Pollard) Grady. He attended country school in Nebraska and later in Iowa. Following his graduation from high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country in the Pacific onboard the USS Nashville during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Iowa and made his home in Rock Valley, Iowa where he helped his family on the farm. He moved with his family to Maurice, Iowa, where they continued to farm and later to Le Mars, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Arlene Grosenheider on June 6, 1949 in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars. Early on, he and his brother, Bernard, owned and operated Grady Construction. In the mid 60’s, he went to work for I.B.P. as an engineer. He continued with them until he retired.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. He was also a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars. In his earlier years, Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage and basement where he fixed just about anything. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Le Mars, IA; his son: Tim (Linda) Grady of Le Mars; two grandchildren: Kate (Sam) Koth of Rock Valley, IA and their children: Peter, Davy, and Roc; and Anne (Chris) Healy of Sioux Falls, SD; his sisters in law: LouAnn Grady of Seattle, WA, Bea Grady of Orange City, IA, Florence Groseinheider of Le Mars, and Maggie Grosenheider of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter: Geri Ann Grady; two brothers: Bernard Grady and Jerry Grady; a sister: Veronica Cogswell; and two sisters in infancy.
