From the Boyden Reporter, October 21, 1920:

KLAAS W. KOOIMAN

Klaas W. Kooiman, who passed away at Rochester, Minn., on the morning of October 10th, was born at Andijk, in the Province of North Holland, Netherlands, on the 19th day of October, in the year of 1869. Had he lived nine days longer he would have reached the age of 51 years. In the spring of 1888 he came to America and settled at Edgerton, Minn., where he found employment as clerk in a store. In 1894 on August 29th, he was married to Miss Jennie VanMeveren. To this union two children were born. They are William of Chandler, Minn., and Arthur of Boyden.

After several years of business experience, deceased established a business at Edgerton, Minnesota, in the year 1903. It was while he conducted this business that the entire store was wiped out by fire. After this the family moved to Holland, Mich., where they resided for three years, and in 1914, Mr. Kooiman accepted the position as Manager of the People's Co-Operative Store in Boyden and was active manager of this store until the time of his death.

Mr. Kooiman was a man of Christian character, and was for many years a member of the Reformed Church. As a business man he was one of our best, and he was also one of our best and most noble citizens. He made a big success in conducting the Co-Operative Store here. He was a man of very pleasing disposition, and had hundreds of friends. At the time of his death he was President of the Board of Education of our Public Schools, and was considered a valuable member on this board. His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to this entire community. Hs life his deeds, his influence, living or dead, and his pure aspirations are the monuments that will keep his name burning in the home and the hearts of kindred and brethren. While the silence of death wraps and chills us at this moment, precious memories come crowding in.

He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife and two sons, two brothers and one sister in Holland, one brother Ray at Spokane, Wash., and one sister Gertrude at Kalamazoo, Mich. Also a brother-in-law Mr. H. Hulshof and children of Rock Valley, Iowa.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Kooiman were held from the Reformed Church at Boyden at 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, and 3:00 P.M. at Edgerton, Minn. Interment was made in the Edgerton, Minn., cemetery.

[Followed by a sentimental poem.]
