Mike Engeldinger, prominent Hawarden business man, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester Minnesota, at 11:20 o'clock last Thursday morning.

Mr. Engeldinger was taken ill last November and in December he was taken to Rochester for examination. It was discovered that he was suffering from an aneurysm. While he improved considerably and was able to return home, Mr. Engelinger did not recover from his ailment.
A week preceding his death, he became critically ill and was removed to the Hawarden Hospital. In order that a specialist might care for him and in hopes that he might recover, he was again taken to Rochester in the A. Earl Ross ambulance last Wednesday. Mrs. Engeldinger and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Muth accompanied him to Rochester. He died the following day.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church in Hawarden at 9 o'clock Monday morning with Reverend Father R. Graf saying the Requiem Mass. The pall bearers were six nephews, S/Sgt. Robert, Vincent and Walter, Jr., Muth, Alvin and Alfred Zink, and Bernard Joungers of Alton,. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Members of the American Legion attended the funeral in body and had charge of the service at the grave. Business houses in Hawarden were closed during the service.

Mike Engeldinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Emma (Masuen) Engeldinger, was born at Alton on March 17, 1894, and passed away June 17, 1943, having attained the age of 49 years and three months. He grew up on a farm near Alton and received his education there. Later he took a business course at Trinity College in Sioux City.

He was a veteran of World War No. 1, entering the service in July, 1917. He served 18 months in the army, one year of which he spent overseas. After the war, he returned to Alton and lived there until April, 1927, when he came to Hawarden. He opened a garage here and took over the Chevrolet agency. In 1930, he formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, Gene Ney, who is now serving in the navy.

On October 16, 1929, he was united in marriage with Celia Ney, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Joe Jounning of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. George Jungers of Alton, and two brothers, John Engeldinger of Alton, and Emil of Sheldon. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Among out of town relatives and friends who came for the funeral were Mrs. Joe Jounning and two children of Los Angeles, California, Mr. and Mrs. John Engeldinger and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Jungers and family, Mike Zink and children, and Reverend J.M. Neppel of Alton, Emil Engeldinger of Sheldon, Mrs. Alma Passehl of Huron, South Dakota, and H. Buckley of Omaha, a representative of the Chevrolet agency. A large number of former neighbors and friends of the Alton vicinity also attended the services.
