Death of Well Known Pioneer

Peter Engeldinger died March 1, at the home, six miles south of Alton, which has been his own since 1871. He had been unwell for a time, but friends hoped for recovery until recently, when his illness assumed a serious turn and death came steadily and surely.

Mr. Engeldinger was born in Contern, Luxemborg, January 25, 1840, came to the United States in 1870 and to Sioux County in 1871. He left here that summer for two years and then came back to the farm which he has tilled and improved in 1873. In 1882 he married Margaret Massen, of Le Mars and she survives him.

There are six children, who were all present at the funeral—John, Emil, Michael, Margaret, Kate, Mrs. Barbara Jungers and Mrs. Mary Hemmen, of Granville.

A large concourse of old friends and neighbors attended the funeral, which was held at St. Mary's Church in Alton on Monday, the sermon being preached by Very Reverend Father F. J. Brune.
