Myrna Van Beek, 76, of Bradenton, Florida, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida.
Services are Thursday, September 8, 2016. There will be a prayer service at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa at 9:30 AM, with interment to follow at Hope Cemetery in Hull, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home at 11:15 AM with Pastor Art Schoonveld officiating.
Myrna Van Beek was born October 31, 1939 to Art and Jeanette (Bouma) Van Beek. She was raised and educated in Sioux Center Iowa, graduating from Sioux Center Christian School and Western Christian High School. She then went on to Dordt College for two years. Myrna continued her education graduating from Calvin College and then receiving her masters from Michigan State. Myrna was honored to be a Christian Educator. She had a passion for knowledge, a commitment to parents and students and a deep love for Christ her Savior and Lord. Christian education, especially the years she dedicated to Jenison Christian, was the way she combined her passions and served the Lord.
Myrna taught for 50 years.  Her teaching career began in Hull, Iowa.  From there she moved to Minneapolis where she served as principal. Myrna's next move was to Michigan where she taught at Allendale Christian.  From there she moved to Jenison Christian where she taught primarily sixth grade and later middle school math classes and finally designing and building a computer curriculum that far exceeded any other.  She dedicated time and money to seeing that dream become a reality for students because she wanted her students to be prepared for the future.
Her sister, Lois Van Beek, is her sole survivor.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gilmer, and an infant sister, Joyce Elaine.
