Mr. Dennis Van Sloten, age 60, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at his residence.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, August 27, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Dennis Dale was born on March 20, 1956, in Sioux Center, the son of William J. and Geneva (Bomgaars) Van Sloten. He was raised at Hull, where he graduated from the Boyden-Hull Community School. He also attended the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon to become an electrician.

On August 29, 1975, he married Pamela Jean Vander Ploeg at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home by Maurice until 1986, when they moved to their farm southeast of Hull.

Dennis assisted other farmers when living by Maurice, and he farmed for himself at Hull.. He first traveled as an electrician for Interstates Electric in Sioux Center for a short time. For eight years, he was also a service technician of liquid propane for the Farmers Cooperative Gas and Oil in Sioux Center.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and an elder. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and repairing things on the farm.

Survivors include his wife of almost 41 years; two sons, Matthew Van Sloten, and his friend, Kiley Spengler, of Durant; and Curtis Van Sloten, and his wife, Della, of Hamilton, Ohio; two daughters and their husbands, Mindy and Loren Halma; and Carrie and Mark Dieters, all of Inwood; six grandchildren, Ella Van Sloten, of Brookings, South Dakota; Emily Van Sloten, of Camanche; and Patrick Halma, Bailee Halma, Jake Dieters, and Carlee Dieters, all of Inwood; four step-grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, Hayden, and Harrison Van Sloten, all of Hamilton; a sister and her husband, Beverly and Henry Schelling, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Pam’s family, her parents, John and Julia Vander Ploeg, of Sioux Center; her sister and her husband, Pat and Dennis Oolman, of Orange City; and her three brothers and their wives, Ron and Denise Vander Ploeg and Chuck and Connie Vander Ploeg, all of Sioux Center; and Bob and Kim Vander Ploeg, of Hiawatha; eighteen nephews and nieces, nineteen great-nephews and nieces, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; a nephew, Clinton Schelling; and a great-nephew, Zachary Hoogeveen.
