Sylvia Harberts, age 86 of Little Rock, IA died Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, IA.
 
     Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 5th at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA, with Pastor Dustin Sperlich officiating.
 
     Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock.
 
     Visitation will be Sunday, September 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock.

    
     Sylvia Fern (Blau) Harberts was born on August 18, 1930 rural Ellsworth, MN, the daughter of Harley and Janetta (Hinrichs) Blau. She grew up on a farm near Ellsworth and attended country school and later graduated from Ellsworth High School. She attended Franklin Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Minneapolis, MN, obtaining her LPN degree and working for a short while at the hospital in Hull, Iowa. On March 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Loren Harberts at the First Baptist Church in George, IA. In 1951, they moved to Stockholm, SD, where they farmed until 1953. They then moved to a farm 3 miles north and 1 ½ miles east of Little Rock where they raised their 5 children. They retired from farming in 1994, and moved into Little Rock. In 2014 Sylvia moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, Iowa where she recieved wonderful and outstanding care from all their staff!. She was known at FC for her amazing care of their flowers! Sylvia worked as a Home Health Aide for Osceola County Home Health in Sibley Iowa until age 81. One important milestone for Sylvia and her husband was when they received a Century Farm Award in 1994. Sylvia was a lifelong member of the Salem Reformed Church and was very active in the church and a founding member of the Martha - Rachel Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Little Rock, and Lyon Co Historical Society. Many summers during the Lyon Co. fair you could find Sylvia in the round roof barn teaching the younger generation about Spec ‘n Dicken. She enjoyed sewing, making t-shirt quilts, gardening, fishing and going to card clubs. Sylvia even had a motorcycle license. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and supporting them in the various events they participated in. Her calendar was always full.
     Sylvia is survived by her five children: Darrell Harberts ( Skylur Haggart fianceé ) of Casa Grande, AZ, Joleen (Harold) DeJong of Little Rock, IA, Carol (Patrick) Morgan of Crescent, IA, Lennis (Marvella) Harberts of Sibley, IA and Don (Lori) Harberts of Rock Valley, IA; twenty-one grandchildren: Rachel (Shawn) Dominguez, Jean Harberts, Daniel (Megan) Harberts, David Harberts, Heath (Wendy) DeJong, Stephanie (Chris) Asche, Courtnie (Michael) Fleshman, Allison DeJong, Todd Morgan, Annie Morgan, Chelsea (Jeff ) Lampen, Keshia Harberts (Drew Bean fiancé) , Jurnea Harberts (Jacob Bos special friend) Britta Harberts (Preston Marco special friend) Apiyo Harberts, Uchan Harberts, Aysha Harberts, Ahbea Harberts. Derek (Kelly) Harberts, Taylor Harberts, Brendan Harberts; sixteen great-grandchildren: Justin Harberts-Miller, Jean Swopes, Desiree McWilliams; Nathan,Hunter, Dahson and Jahlyn DeJong; Jayden and Landon Asche; Easton, Emmitt, Eaghan and Elliss Fleshman. Louis Morgan, Lorelei Lampen and Jack Harberts. Six siblings: Hazel Winter of George,IA, Hattie Vermaat of Jenison, MI, Grace Averill of Elwood, IL, Janette Decker of Winona, MN, Priscilla Swenson of Luverne, MN, Beverly Patterson of LaCrescent, MN, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Janetta Blau; husband, Loren Harberts; granddaughter, Mary Lynn Harberts; four sisters: Wilma Klingenberg, Anna Johnson and two in infancy; and numerous brothers and sisters in-law.
