Funeral services for Mrs. Ellerbroek

Mrs. Jennie Markus Ellerbroek passed away Thursday morning, March 8, at the Holland Home at Sheldon, at the age of 94 years, two months and eight days.

Mrs. Ellerbroek was born in Pella, Ia., December 24, 1861.

She was the last surviving of John Henry and Adriana Marie Markus. Her three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death, as also her husband, John Ellerbroek.

From Pella the Markus family moved to Sioux County. They belonged to the early pioneers of Sioux County.

Mrs. Ellerbroek was, for the greater part of her life, a faithful, full communicant member of, and faithful Sunday School teacher, in the First Reformed Church of Orange City. In her early years she also taught in the public schools in the Orange City area.

In 1926 she entered the Holland Home in Sheldon, and joined the First Reformed Church of Sheldon.

In 1927 she was married to John Ellerbroek.

Funeral services were held in the Holland Home. Reverend Charles J. Boonstra of Trinity Reformed Church, Orange City, Iowa, was in charge of the services, assisted by Reverend H.S. Muilenburg and Reverend J.J. Vander Schaaf.

A favorite hymn of Mrs. Ellerbroek "O Think of the Home over There" was sung by two ladies of the church of Sheldon.

Great nephews , Milton Boogard, Earl Bonnema, Carl Ver Steeg, Marion Mulder, Bob Den Beste and Bernard Den Beste acted as pallbearers.

Those who came from a distance were John Markus, Valentine, Nebraska; Wyone Markus, Lake View, South Dakota; student at Northwestern college at Orange City; Edward Markus, Corsica, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Markus, Corsica, South Dakota; and Mrs. Naomi Iversen, Mitchell, South Dakota.
