Funeral services for Earl Eilers, 51, who succumbed to a heart attack last Sunday morning in his farm, were held Tuesday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church with Reverend O.F. Pittack officiating. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.

Earl Fred Eilers, son of Gerhard J. Eilers and wife, Gertrude, nee Frerichs, was born in Plymouth county November 8, 1912, and in 1915 he accompanied his parents to a farm about three miles southeast of Hawarden. Here he also attended the rural school and Hawarden high school and became a member of the local congregation.

On September 1, 1946, he married Irene Downing, also of Hawarden. Reverend C.A. Burkhart performing the ceremony. He continued to farm until 1954 when, after learning of his heart condition through examinations in Rochester, Minnesota, he retired and moved into the city of Hawarden where he became engaged in selling feed. In 1959 he moved to a farm several miles north of this city and at the time of his death he was employed by the state highway commission.

Last December he suffered a slight heart attack and entered the hospital. After his release he was on sick leave from the highway commission until two weeks ago when he was restricted to perform the lighter tasks of employment.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and John, and a sister, Edna, all of whom died in infancy; his brother, Ernest, in 1940, and his mother and father, in 1956 and 1958, respectively.
He is survived by the widow, Irene; one step-son, Edward Downing, and three grandchildren, all of Le Mars; one brother, Clarence, and a sister, Mrs. Luella Wilkison, both of Hawarden.
