Services held for Mrs. John R. Eerkes

Mrs. John R. Eerkes, 85, Orange City, Iowa, following a lingering illness, died at noon, Friday, April 1, I966, in the Orange City hospital.

She was a charter member of The Second Christian Reformed Church, a life-long resident of Orange City and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Maris, Sioux County, pioneers.

Cornelia was born to Cornelius and Geertrui Maris on September 14, 1880.

On December 15, 1898, she was united in marriage to the late Mr. John R. Eerkes, a pioneer merchant, who died in December 1953. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Gertrude, who passed away in 1956.

She is survived by three daughters, Marie, Mrs. William J. Cambier of Orange City, Hermine, Mrs. John P. Stensland of Sioux City, Esther Eerkes of San Antonio, Texas, one son, Mr. Cornelius E. Eerkes of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Libby Draayom of Sheldon, Iowa, Mrs. Gerrit Draayom of Primghar, Iowa, six grandchildren, Wilbur Cambier of Shenendoa, Iowa, Robert Cambier of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Marilyn Cambier Martin of Phoenix, Arizona; Miriam Eerkes Jones of New York City; John C. Eerkes of Detroit, Michigan; and Paul Van't Hof of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and eight great grandchildren William and James Martin; Ellen and David Cambier; Gregory, Carrie Elizabeth, and J. Bradford Jones; and John Scott Eerkes.

Funeral services under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home were held at the Second Christian Reformed Church, on Monday, at 2:00 o'clock P.M., with interment in the Orange City Cemetery. Reverend Jay De Vries, pastor of the church officiated.
