Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian Church at Boyden, last week Thursday, for Mrs. Augustus Edes (Sarah Ellen Sweet) from Los Angeles, California. Interment was made in the Hull Cemetery.

She was a former resident of Boyden and formerly homestead with her husband on the farm one mile west and three miles north of Boyden.

Sarah Ellen Sweet was born at Brewer, Maine, on March 12, 1847, and passed away in Los Angeles, California, on July 7, 1928, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 25 days. She was married on February 1, 1870, to Augustus Edes who preceded her in death on September 2, 1891. Immediately after their marriage they came to Sedalia, Missouri, where they lived for one year and then moved to Sioux County, where they homesteaded on the farm near Boyden.

In the fall of 1895 she moved to Boyden, where she made her home for a number of years. She also lived in Cedar Falls and in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Five years ago she and her daughter, Sarah M. moved to Los Angeles, California.

She leaves to mourn her death, William Milton of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; Everett N. of New York, New York; Nannie Johnson of Little Rock and Sarah M., of Los Angeles, California, and 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Edes, a Civil War veteran is buried in Hope Cemetery. He served for under General Meade and fought in thirteen battles and was only wounded once, and that occurred at the Battle of Shiloh.

The Edes family is traced back to Mayflower ancestry. The Boston Tea Party plot was originated in the old Edes print shop in Boston. The Star Spangled Banner was printed by an Edes in the Edes print shop.
