From the Hawarden Independent, March 4, 1920:

ENGINEER SUDDENLY EXPIRES
Walter Bandy, Well Known Here, Dies at His Home in Huron

Walter Bandy, a well known engineer on the Northwestern line running between Hawarden and Huron, died very suddenly at his home in Huron last Thursday morning. Mr. Bandy returned home from his run at 9:30 in the morning in apparently his usual health. About 10 o'clock he went to the basement in company with his father-in-law, James Ross, to fix a leak in the water pipes, and while at work on his knees fell over dead.

Mr. Bandy was born at Jordan, Minn., Jan. 4, 1859, and was just past 61 yeas of age. He went to Huron when a young man and took up work as a fireman on the Northwestern road and has since been in the employ of that company. Twenty-one years ago last September he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Ross of Hawarden. He and his bride went to Huron where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Bandy and three children, James, Virginia and Margaret, survive him. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bandy of Volga, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Ware, Mrs. R. O. Albertson, both of Volga, and Mrs. John Ware of Michigan; six brothers, M. W. Bandy of Volga, J. S. Bandy of Sioux Falls, H. A. Bandy of Hawarden, E. W. Bandy and A. A. Bandy of Jordan, Minn., and George A. Bandy of Huron.
