Sioux County Capital December 14, 1944

Dick Den Hartog passed away at the County Home at' 6 o'clock Monday morning. Mr. Den Hartog had been ailing for some time with arterial sclerosis. Mr. Den Hartog was born at Pella, la. on April 21, 1877 and came to Sioux County with his parents when a small child. He lived with his parents at Middleburg where he suffered sunstroke at the age of 28. The illness enfeebled him mentally and he was taken to the physopathic hospital at Cherokee. He remained there for 8 years, after 8 years, after which he was brought to the County Home, where he continued residence until the time of his passing.

Mr. Den Hartog was the eldest member of a family of 13 Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers: Mrs. Maggie Solsma of Sheldon, who died 8 years ago Mrs. Annie Reimersma of Hospers who died the following year, and Mrs. Ida Vos who died at Newkirk 25 years ago. A brother, James Den Hartog died the past spring at Sheldon and his brother, Dingeman Den Hartog died 9 years ago. Surviving him are 4 brother and 3 sisters, Mrs. Jane Slotlouber, Mrs. Herman Scholten, Mrs. Dick De Graaf and Herman Jen Hartog, all of Alton, John Jen Hartog and Walter Den lartog of Hospers, and Edward Den Hartog of Sanborn.

Funeral services were held at i:30 Tuesday in the Van Etten Funeral Parlors with the Rev. Gt. Doctor of Hospers officiating

The Sioux County Cemetery Index lists Dick Den Harton born 21 Apr 1877 died 11 Dec 1944 buried in West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City.
