Clara Hoekstra, age 91, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa. Rev. James Laning officiating.

Graveside Service will be Tuesday, July 26, at 1:15 P.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Monday, July 25, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials will be given to Sheldon Christian Grade School Foundation and Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School.

Clara Harriet Ter Horst was born May 3, 1925 to Bert and Gertrude (Gesink) Ter Horst. Clara graduated from Orange City Christian Grade School and graduated as salutatorian from Alton High School in 1942. She then attended Northwestern College and began her teaching career of nine years in country school houses and Rock Valley Christian School. While teaching she attended summer classes at Westmar College.
She was united in marriage to Martin Dennis Hoekstra of Sheldon, Iowa on November 7, 1952 at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. Martin and Clara were blessed with five children: Dennis Marlyn, Glen Eldon, Loren Mark, Cheryl Rae and Carol Faye. They farmed in the Sheldon area for many years and Clara was a homemaker.
Martin and Clara were charter members of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Clara taught Sunday School and Catechism and was a member of the Sunshine Circle. She was a current member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church.
Clara enjoyed reading books, sewing, baking, gardening, and volunteering for Sheldon Christian School in trimming and counting box tops and labels for education.
Most of all, Clara loved being a wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Her family is thankful for her dedication to the Christian School, church and family.
She passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 63 years, Martin D. Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA; her children, Dennis (Gloria) Hoekstra of Orange City, IA and their children, Brian (Deanne) Hoekstra, Michael Hoekstra, Cindy (Michael) Kiel, Julie (Joel) Leusink; Glen (Sheri) Hoekstra of Fox Lake, WI and their children, Lisa (Nick) Hull, Steve (Cortnie) Hoekstra, Laura (Josh) Bos; Loren Hoekstra of Estherville, IA; Cheryl (Stan) Fynaardt of Pella, IA and their children, Daniel (Katelynn) Fynaardt, Stephanie (Kyle) Oostra, Shannon Fynaardt; Carol (Ralph) Schnabel of Menno, SD; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and expecting 2 more; sister, Harriet Snieder of Sioux Center, IA; sister-in-law, Dinah Ter Horst of Sioux Center, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lawrence Ter Horst, brother-in-law, Warren Snieder, 2 great-grandchildren, Mark and Sam Hull.
