Wilmina (Mrs. Ed) Cleveringa, age 93, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 9, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Revs. Mark Haverdink and Timothy Breen will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Wilmina was born on August 3, 1922, in rural Alton, the daughter of Gerrit J. and Elizabeth (Vander Maten) Van Es. She was raised on a farm north of Alton and attended the Floyd Rural Independent School.

On February 9, 1945, she married Edward J. Cleveringa. They first farmed north of Alton and later moved to a farm west of Orange City, where they farmed the rest of their married life. Ed passed away on August 21, 1970. Wilmina moved to a home in Orange City in July of 1975, and lived there until June of 2013, when she became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, in Orange City. She was transferred to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in June of 2015.

Mrs. Cleveringa was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, where she was involved in Circle. For many years she volunteered to help with the church’s annual Tulip Festival food stand, helping make saucijsjes and working in the stand during the festival. She also participated in several of the church’s work projects. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, crocheting, gardening, bowling, playing cards and reading. A great source of joy for her and for her family were the weekly Sunday noon meals at her home.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses; Jolene (John) Melles of Aurora, Illinois; and Gary (Judy) Cleveringa, Robert (DeeAnn) Cleveringa, and Lloyd (Marcia) Cleveringa, all of Orange City; fifteen grandchildren, Julie (Matthew) Denovellis and Michael (Jennifer) Melles, of North Aurora; Patricia (Brian) De Kock, Jill (Kurt) Wierda, and Sara (Tim) Van Zee, all of Orange City; Jennifer Vander Schaaf (fiancé Michael Dekkers), of Sioux Center; Pam (Scott) Dykstra, of Urbandale; John (Dana) Cleveringa, of Zeeland, Michigan; Bradley (Tracy) Cleveringa, Carissa (Brock) Jensen, Breanne Cleveringa, and Matthew Cleveringa, all of Orange City; Amy (Jeff) De Boer, of Sioux Center; Eric (Jennifer) Cleveringa, of Orange City; and David Cleveringa, of Hospers; 35 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Van Es, of Alton; Arlene Van Es, of Orange City; and Alice (Rob) Vander Broek, of Sioux Center; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her husband’s parents, Lewis “Lou” and Jantje “Jennie” (Roghair) Cleveringa; four brothers, John (age 16), Frank (age 6 months), Frank (age 68), and John (age 72); four sisters-in-law, Rouvina (Albert) Wiekamp, Henrietta (Hilbert) Jager, Catherine (Neal Jager and Marion) Vander Brake, and Laura Cleveringa; and two brothers-in-law, Jake Foreman, and Nicholas (Wilmina) Cleveringa.

Memorials will be directed to the First Reformed Church Mission Fund.
