Theresa Peters, age 87, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Rev. Kevin Muyskens officiating.

Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Friday, July 1, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Memorials may be directed to the Sheldon Christian Grade School and Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, Sheldon.

Theresa Peters, the former Theresa Venema, the daughter of Cornelius and Anna (Westerman) Venema, was born January 10, 1929 at Hospers, Iowa, the 6th of 7 children. She grew up in the Hospers area, and attended Hospers Christian and Western Christian High, graduating in 1948. Theresa was raised in a Christian home where there never arose a question about the reality of Christ or the inspiration of the Holy Word. She attended Westmar and Calvin Colleges, then taught 5th and 6th grades in Sheldon Christian School for three years. She was baptized and professed her faith in Jesus in the Hospers Christian Reformed Church, where she married Herbert J. Peters on December 28, 1950. They farmed by Hospers and moved west of Sheldon in 1956. She had been a member of Hospers CRC, First CRC of Sheldon, and was a charter of member of Immanuel CRC.
Church participation was an important part of her life. She served as a Sunday school teacher, catechism teacher, Gems Counselor, choir member, and librarian. She was a church organist for 50 years. She served several terms as president of Immanuel Sunshine Circle. She was an avid supporter of Christian education as a teacher and Christian School Auxiliary member and officer, and was active in many works of service.
Theresa was a homemaker who also enjoyed gardening, reading, sports, musical concerts, travelogues, and spending time with family. She instilled the love of music in her children and taught all of them piano.
She passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa and now is with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Those left to cherish her memories are 2 daughters and sons-in-law Coranne and Rev. Jerry Vreeman of Colorado Springs, CO, Jacqueline and Thomas Vreeman of Grand Rapids, MI; 2 sons and daughters-in-law Barton and Debra K. Peters of Sheldon, IA, Martin and Debra J. Peters of Sheldon, IA; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister Melvina (Marlowe Pranger) Vander Linde of Grand Rapids, MI; 3 sisters-in-law Audrey Venema of Sarnia, Ontario, Norma Venema of Ancaster, Ontario, and Nijole Venema of Helena, MT.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Peters (January 18, 2011); her parents Cornelius and Anne Venema; step- mothers Arta Kuipers, Johanna (Waanders) Venema; 4 brothers John (Virginia) Venema, Henry Venema, Richard (Carrie, Mary) Venema, and Alvin Venema; and one sister Harriet (Roy) DeJong; brother-in-law Donald Vander Linde; sisters-in-law Marie (Cornie) Moerman, Caroline (Gil) Visser, and Esther (Morris) Scholten.
