Memorial Tribute

Patricia Deon (Dicus) Swets, daughter of Lt. Cecil “Ted” Dicus and Myrtle Edith (Adams) Dicus Aldrich, was born at Caldwell, ID on January 5, 1931. She attended school and spent her youth in the Boise, ID area.

Following her education, Patricia worked at the shoe store with Dot Dicus, and also the local telephone company. She met Myron Swets in Boise, ID. He was stationed at the Mountain Home Airforce base from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean conflict. On August 5, 1952, Patricia and Myron were united in marriage by Rev. Victor L. Meyer at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boise, ID. They were blessed with five children: Denise Kay, Teresa Marie, Tanya Lynn, Michael Scott, and Casey John.

The couple resided in Boise until Myron’s honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force on December 6, 1954. Shortly after, they left Boise and moved to Orange City, IA for several years before returning to Boise in 1958. Two years later, Myron and Patricia moved to Orange City, IA to farm with Myron’s parents, Cornelius and Mary (Browneye) Swets. In 1968, they purchased their own farm one mile west and three and one-half miles north of Sanborn, IA. They raised their family, and lived the remainder of their married life in the Sanborn area.

Window painting, roller skating, sewing, and cooking were things Patricia enjoyed doing. Traveling with her sister, Shirley Huss, was another special enjoyment. She and Myron both had fun together fishing for walleye.

Over the years, Patricia had been employed as a secretary for the Spencer Municipal Hospital, and a cook at the Pike Supper Club in Sanborn. She also worked at the Pronto Convenience Store in Sanborn. Patricia was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family very much and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Patricia moved to Prairie View Assisted Living in Sanborn on January 4, 2013. She loved and served the Lord as a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn since 1970. Patricia passed from this life at Prairie View Inn at Sanborn, IA on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the age of 85.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ted Dicus and Myrtle Aldrich; her husband of 49 years, Myron Swets; grandchild, Shane Dolphin; great-grandchild, Shane Schroeder; sister, Shirley Huss; brother, Robert Dicus; stepfather, Earl Aldrich; and half-brother, Kenneth Aldrich.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Denise (Steve) Dolphin of Winnemucca, NV, Teresa (Bob) Facinelli of Green River, WY, Tanya (Randall) Egdorf of Sanborn, IA, Scott Swets (Joyce Keninger) of Sheldon, IA, Casey (Lee) Swets of Winnemucca, NV; 15 grandchildren: Stacia (Jamie) Schroeder, Stephanie (Brant) Manley, Shawn Ferguson, Shannon Fisher, Melinda (Troy) Batien, Tabatha (Mike) Barnes, Amanda (Chad) Felix, Adam (Chelsie) Swets, Michael Keninger, Kyle Swets, Mark Swets, Rachel Swets, Melissa Ragen, Jessica Ragen, and D.
