Mr. Edwin Lutjens, age 95, of Oklahoma City, Oklamoha, formerly of Hull, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his residence.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, July 11, at 1:30pm, at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Hull. The Rev. Richard Thomas will officiate.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Edwin Sylvester was born on December 15, 1920, at Hull, the son of William John and Louise Katharina (Beckman) Lutjens. He was raised in Hull and attended the Hull public schools and a trade school. After graduation he joined the United States Army and served for three years.

On October 19, 1942, he married E. Louise Overbaugh in Dakota City, Nebraska. They made their home in Hull, Sioux City, and Waterloo, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska. Over the years, he had different jobs including brick laying and working for the Northwest Bell Telephone Company. Louise passed away on September 30, 2009.

Mr. Lutjens enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, and wood carving. He was a member of the Lions Club, Pioneers, and the Gideons. He was also an elder and council member of his church and a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, the Revs. Lauryce Leigh and Richard Thomas, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and their spouses, Nathen and Sarah Thomas, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jeremy and Karen Thomas, of Espanola, New Mexico; Laurinda and Nathan Bishop, of Ruidoso, New Mexico; and Janna and Edgardo Baez, of Puerto Rico; three great-grandchildren, Liam Edwin Thomas, Sofia Paige Baez, and Sebastian Pryce Baez; and a cousin, Erma Fick, of Hull.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Craig Edwin Lutjens; two sisters, Frances Kuiper and Ethel Heyman, and a brother, Elmer Lutjens.
