Funeral services for Marten Boer were held Saturday, October 15 at 1:15 P.M. in the First Reformed Church in Boyden. Reverend Henry G. Schoon officiated. Interment was at the Boyden Cemetery with Kraai Funeral Home of Hull in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were six men with whom Mr. Boer was employed at Dethmers Implement Company: Glenn Blankers, Ernest Hollander, Junior Hollander, Junior Reuvers, Wendy Zuiderhof and Ivan Doorenbos, all of Boyden.

Marten Boer, son of John and Frances (Hoekstra) Boer of Boyden, was born September 25, 1932 at Sanborn, Iowa and spent his boyhood days in that vicinity. In 1940 the family moved to a farm near Boyden where Mr. Boer made his home till time of death.

On December 8th, 1952, Mr. Boer was called into the U.S. Army where he served with the 24th Division and received his honorable discharge November 4th, 1954. Eighteen months of this service was spent in Korea.

On December 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Dorothy De Groot of Hull. They made their home in Boyden during the six years of their marriage. To this union two sons were born, Marlin Dean, 5 years and Larry Kent, 22 months.

Mr. Boer reached the age of 28 years and 18 days. He lost his life in a cave-in accident in a sewer system he was working on in George, Iowa. He was first patient at the Rock Rapids Hospital and later transferred to the Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls where he passed away at 9:30 A.M. October 13, 1960, never regaining consciousness following the accident.

Mr. Boer was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Dorothy, two sons; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Boer and two brothers, Peter of Sanborn and Donald of Sheldon, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Boer, Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Boer, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Vander Burg, Mrs. William Leusink and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brummel all of Edgerton, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rutges of Bigelow, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Nick Woltersdorf of Rushmore, Minnesota; Mrs. Tillie Sietstra and Miss Reka Sietstra of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mrs. Arnold Ferecils, Mrs. Ellsworth Underbakke and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Underbakke, all of Elmore, Minnesota.
