Mr. Wieger Boelsma, 78years, long time resident of Boyden, passed away suddenly last Wednesday morning at 8:00 A.M. in his home, due to a heart attack.

Mr. Boelsma, son of the late Hendrick Boelsma and Waphje Schotanus was born June 30, 1881 in the Netherlands and reached the age of 78 years, 3 months and 7 days. He received his schooling at Wychel Reisland, Netherlands. When a young boy, he came to this country and grew up to manhood in Sioux County.

On May 13, 1909, he was married to Henderina Dekker, of Boyden. They farmed in the Boyden vicinity until they retired and moved to the home in the east part of town where they resided until this day.

He was a devout member of the Boyden First Reformed Church.

Surviving are his wife, Henderina, and one son Henry Boelsma of Boyden and eight grandchildren, one brother Johannes Boelsma in Holland, the Netherlands, two step-brothers, Jake De Jong of California and John De Jong of Boyden, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 10 at 2:00 P.M. at the Co-op Burial Chapel in Sioux Center, under the arrangements of De Bruin Burial Association. Reverend Henry G. Schoon, pastor of the Reformed Church in Boyden was in charge of services.

Songs sung at the service were “Going Down the Valley” and “Beyond the Sunset”, by Mrs. Dick Vink and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Fritts with Mrs. Don Van Meeteren at the organ.

Pallbearers were six nephews, Clarence Wolthuizen, Andrew Wolthuizen, John Wolthuizen, George Hinrich, Robert Merley and Dick Vink.
