JOHN DAWSON DIES AT 79
John C. Dawson, 79, died Friday, August 30, following a month-long illness, in the Hawarden hospital. His funeral was held Monday morning at the Methodist church with Dr. G. S. Bruland officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of Dow Funeral Home. Mrs. Don Hummel was organist, and Mrs. Rod Wilbeck sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Casket bearers were Wilbur Dixon, Charles Gourley, Charles Vipond, Harley Whittington, Rex Smith, and Claire Finnie.

Dawson was born December 10, 1889 in Union county," South Dakota. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. He married Gertrude Angell February 14, 1917. Following his discharge from the Army in 1918 he farmed in Union county. He was a member of Dale Masonic Lodge 456, AF & AM; Two Oakes Post 254, American Legion; Oriental Consistory,Yankton, and a former member of the board of directors of the South Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts.

Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rollin Camp of Madison, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Don Gothier of Anthon; two sisters, Mrs. Viva Marshall of Doon and Miss Laura Dawson of Pompano Beach, Florida, and six grandchildren.
