Sioux County Index April 7, 1916

Carl Czepull died at his home in the west part of town Friday March 31, of cancer of the stomach, aged 58 years 2 months and 24 days. He was born in Germany and came to America in 1881. He was a miller by trade, and was head miller in the Rock Valley Mill for fourteen years. He leaves a wife (Augusta) and eight children. His funeral was conducted at the ME church by the pastor W. P. Webb Monday afternoon and was laid to rest in Valley View Cemetery.

Carl Fred Czepull, who was a victim of that dread disease cancer of the stomach, departed this life at his home in Rock Valley March 31. The deceased was born in Koenigsburg, Germany January 6th, 1848, and was 68 years, 2 months and 24 days old at the time of his demise. At the age of fourteen he began to learn the trade of a miller and was a master of his profession. In 1870 and 1871 he served in the French and Prussian war and was faithful and loyal in the discharge of his military duties.

In 1881 he came to America and located in Wisconsin where he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Gorr, who was also of German extraction. They moved from Wisconsin to Hinton where they resided nine years, he plying his trade as a miller. From Hinton they moved to LeMars where he lived four years and from there he came to Rock Valley where he was employed as head miller in the Rock Valley flour mill for fourteen years and his work was satisfactory to his employer and to the patrons of the institution as he was efficient in his line of work. He was baptized in the Lutheran church and always affiliated with it. He was identified with the Odd Fellows lodge at Merrill and endeavored to exemplify the teachings of the order. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his departure.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. P. Webb, pastor of the Methodist church, after which the remains were interred in Valley View cemetery. The family have the sympathy of their friends in the hour of sore bereavement.
