From the Alton Democrat, December 18, 1915: Rock Valley news:

A. Franken, a highly esteemed citizen residing four miles west of Rock Valley, died Friday, December 10, of that loathsome disease, cancer, with which he had been afflicted for several months. He leaves a family and many friends to mourn his demise. Funeral services occurred Saturday at the First Reformed church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. B. De Jong, after which his remains were laid to rest in Valley View cemetery. The family have the sympathy of their many friends.
