W. A. (Wm.) Crosser Answers the Last Roll Call.
Honored Soldier and Citizen died at his home in this city Saturday Evening. Again has the last roll call been sounded for an honored veteran of the Civil war. The last to answer the call was W. A. Crosser, who died at his home in this city Saturday, July 14th, at the age of 75 years and 27 days. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city Tuesday afternoon. Rev. C. W. Heady, pastor of the church, preaching the funeral sermon. The members of the G. A. R. and the Relief Corps attended the funeral
in a body and the impressive Grand Army Ritual service was carried out at the grave.

W. A. Grosser was born in Mercer, Pa,, June 16, 1842. He enlisted in the Union army in 1862 and served his country for four years. He was united in marriage with Miss Henrietta Bryan, Nov. 21, 1869. Three children came to gladden this union, one of whom died in infancy. In 1884 with his family he left Wisconsin and settled in South Dakota where they resided until 1893 at which time they moved to Hawarden. During his residence in South Dakota he was converted and became a member of the Baptist church at Egan and on April 19, 1894, he united by letter with the Baptist church of Hawarden, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. Deacon Grosser was ever ready to do his part in honoring his Lord and Master without thought of reward.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Henrietta Grosser, and two children, Mrs. Ora May Hecox of Hawarden and Mr. Henry Norman Grosser of Omaha, Nebr. Also a brother and two sisters, W. P. Grosser of Janesville, Ohio, and Mrs. N. Richeal of Williamsburg, Kan., and Mrs. A. J. Bryan of Egan, S. D., besides a host of friends thus has passed from our midst a brave soldier, an honorable citizen, a loving husband, an indulgent father, and a faithful and loyal Christian. In his passing earth’s loss has become Heaven’s gain.
