Death Calls Mrs. Crowley at 83 years
Funeral of Pioneer mother Held Monday.
This community (Inwood) was inexpressibly shocked and pained to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Ellen Crowley wife of the late James Crowley 89 years of age last March first. For sixty eight years the Crowley farm had been her home and she was widely known and universally loved and esteemed for her many Christian virtues and charming personality.

Ellen Kelley was born in Nevada, IL, March 1, 1857 and died October 9, 1942, at the Mc Kennan hospital in Sioux Falls. She was married, to James Crowley at Ottawa, IL on November 18, 1874, and lived in Illinois for eight years then moved to Iowa and settled on the farm where they enjoyed life together for many years and where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 25.

To this union ten children were born, three of them preceding their mother in death. James in infancy; John, and Mrs. John Suhrentz of Alvord in 1933,

The following children were present at her bedside and attended the last rites; Will, Nellie, and Clarence who are all at home; Mrs. Mary Sullivan of Mankato MN; Dan of Canby MN, Florence of Glendive MT and Vincent of Camp Dodge.

The deceased was very active and enjoyed a degree of good health remarkable for a lady of her age. She had been to Camp Dodge to see her son Vincent when he was inducted into the army. On Wednesday morning she was taken suddenly ill with pneumonia and all the loving hand and kind friends could do was to watch her pass peaceful into the great beyond.

A Requiem High Mass was celebrated Monday morning at 9:30 at Rock Valley with Rev. Father David McGoey officiating and her grandson Donald Crowley acting as master server. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband and son in the family lot at St. Mary’s cemetery in Rock Valley A very large number of Friends in all walks of life attended the funeral and burial Services and attested to the esteem in which she was held by all who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, friend and neighbor. Besides the immediate family she leaves to mourn her loss 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
