Rock Valley Bee February 10, 1933

James Crowley, one of the old pioneers of Lyon County, died at his home on January 31st. He had attained the ripe old age of four score years and three. In the spring of 1883, Mr. Crowley came to Lyon County where he has resided ever since.

Mr. Crowley always had the reputation of being an honest upright man. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He held various offices of the county. He always followed the rule of never buying what he could not pay for. He provided well for his family and he and his good wife were given the priviledge of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary at which time all their children and the couple whom attended them were present. During Mr. Crowley's last illness friends from, far and near called to see him. The Crowley home always bid them welcome. He was a kind and faithful husband and father and a good neighbor. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church in Rock Valley on Feb. 2nd, where he had worshipped for nearly a half a century and his remains were laid to rest in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his wife, four sons, Vincent, and Will at home, Dan and Clarence of Canby MN and tree daughters Mrs. Mary Sullivan of Marshall MN, Florence of Gendive MT and Nellie at home.
18 grandchidren and one great grand child besides a host of friends. Two children preceded him in death. Mr. Crowley was the last of his family, two brothers having died just recently
(The obit goes on to lies those in attendance at the funeral service. Also, from the obit of his wife her name was Ellen Kelley.)
