Services Held Wednesday For Former Pastor

Funeral services for Rev. Emil H. Gillman of Readlyn, la, were held in the Peace Lutheran church Wednesday, Feb 22.
Pastor Gillman was a pastor at the Peace Lutheran church for 15 years. Emil H Gillman, one of seven children born to Albert Gillman and his wife, Caroline Nee Mueller, was born on Feb 3 , 1872 in Launenbuerg, Germany.

When he was 10 years of age he lost his father, to death, which was a misfortune. In 1883, he came with his mother, and two brothers, Albert Jr. and Paul to America, and settled in Detroit Michigan. Here he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with pastor Meieser on Palm Sunday 1885.
He entered Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1891. He then entered Luther Theological Seminary at Afton, Minn., which in 1896 he was graduated.
Over 40 years of ministry he served congregations in Vernon Center MN., Hartford, S. D . Alvord; Sioux Center; Rockford; Nora Springs; Renwith; Corwith; and Merrill, Iowa.
On Feb 18, 1897 he was married to Emma Schultz of Wyanotte, Michigan. The couple had six sons and seven daughters.

His wife and three children preceded him in death. After the death of his wife seven years ago, he made his home with various children. The last year and a half he lived with his son, Hubert, in Florida. About 1 month ago he was taken to the home of his daughter Clara, Rev. and Mrs. Jacobs of Readlyn, IA. Ten days ago he was taken to Allan Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. where he died Sunday Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m.
