Gus Berreth, 75, of Hawarden, died in the Hawarden Hospital last Wednesday, October 8, and funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at the Dow Funeral Home with Reverend Arthur Rude officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Miss Dorinda VerHoeven was organist and Verle Marienau was soloist. Casketbearers were Lloyd M. Johnson, Tom Burke, Alex Doohen, Alvin Lingscheit, Howard Nygard and Jerry Wood.

Mr. Berreth was born June 27, 1894, in Scotland , South Dakota. On February 20, 1917, he married Emma Schneider in Scotland. He came to Hawarden in 1943 and was a mechanic for an implement dealer.

Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Louis of Hawarden and Rudy of Sioux Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Alma) Spencer of Omaha, Mrs. George (Frieda) Menkens of Allen, Nebraska, and Mrs. George (LaVerne) Hughes and Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Schneider, both of Hawarden; two brothers, Arthur of Arlington, Virginia, and Herbert of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Paullina Schweinforth of Scotland, South Dakota, and Mrs. Christina Thorn of Portland, Oregon; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
