Hawarden Independent of April 25, 1918

S. E. (Silvanus) Cox was born in Rochester OH May 28, 1842. He was untied in marriage with Lucinda Daily in 1864. They came to Union county 35 years ago and have since made their home in this community. With their declining years they heft the farm southwest of Hawarden and came to this city to live. Eleven children were born to this union. Six sons and five daughters, all of whom with the aged wife and mother, are still living. The children are: Louis Cox, Charlie Cox, Jesse Cox and Mrs. John Edson of Alcester, George Cox, Mrs. Viola Nelson, Mrs. Ernest Bancroft and Miss Viola Cox of Hawarden, Harry Cox of Hecla SD, John Cox of Montana; and Mrs. Rosie Hilderbrand of Albany OR. During the 35 years in which he had made his home in this vicinity he was always held in high regard by all who knew him. The bereaved wife and sorrowing children have the sincere sympathy of all in their sad hour.
