In the Sioux County cemetery index listed is James Cottrill who was born 1842 died 4 Nov 1879 buried St. John’s cemetery at Ireton IA. His wife was Elsie.

No obit was found in the papers. In the 1880 census there was a Cottrill family living in Reading Township Sioux County IA. Head of household was Elsie A. Cottrel age 32 born about 1848, with children Ezra F. 13, Elsie F. 7, Nannie E. 6, Charles L. 2 and Phebe J. 5 Months.
Elsie was born in PA, her parents in New York.

In an article in the Sioux County Herald of October 12, 1882 Mrs. Cottrill, widow of the veteran who died three years ago lost one of her boys Saturday night. We did not learn the cause of his death.

He married Elsie Morgan Briggs 1847-1922. Children were Ezra T. 1866-1957, Elsie 1872-1941, Nina 1873-1966, Charles 1878 - ? he possibly was the one that died in 1882, and Pheobe 1880-1938. Elsie married James Webster in 1884 at Ireton, they later moved out of state.)
