Hawarden Independent February 10, 1921

Mark Cooper died last Friday morning at the McAllister-Meyer hospital from pneumonia, after an illness of but a week's duration. His death came-as a shock to the entire community, despite the fact that he had been in poor health for some time, and had quit farming as a result. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Congregational church in this city, conducted by Rev. A. M. Mclntosh, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery and the services at the grave were in charge of the I. 0. 0. F. lodge.

Mark William Cooper was born at Fennimore, Grant county, Wis., Nov. 14, 1868, and died Feb. 4, 1921, at the age of 52 years, 2 months and 20 days. He came to this vicinity when 25 years of age, and lived here continually until his death. For the last three years he has been a successful farmer, but ill health caused him to give up farming. A short time ago he had a sale of his property and moved to town to care for his aged mother. Shortly afterward he was taken sick, and was removed to the local hospital, where he was unable to overcome the ravage made by the pneumonia. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the IOOF lodge. One brother and his father have preceded him to the Great Beyond. Mark Cooper will be missed in this community, not only among church and lodge circles, but among those friends and acquaintances who have come in contact with his happy disposition and cheery smile. Those left to mourn his death are his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Cooper, his brothers, Thomas and Charles, and sisters, Mrs. L. E. Morlbo, Mrs. E. Barnum, Mrs. George Luckey, and Mrs. J. C. Blodgett, all of this city. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved relatives in their great sorrow.
