John J. Gerdes, 88, of Le Mars died Sunday (Sept. 30, 1984) in a hospital in Fort Dodge. Services were held Wednesday in St. John's American Lutheran church in Le Mars. The Rev. Tom Lee officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson funeral home in Le Mars.

Mr. Gerdes was born April 9, 1896, in Akron. He married Clara Peters Nov. 2, 1921, in Brunsville. They farmed near Craig until 1945 when they moved to Le Mars. She died in 1979. He was a member of St. John's American Lutheran church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leroy (Lillian) Mesner of Primghar, and a sister, Mrs. William (Angie) Westergard of Le Mars.
