Born: 1871
Died: 1927

John F. Behrend of Orange City passed away at his home there Tuesday afternoon of last week following a lingering illness from kidney and heart trouble. About the first of the year Mr. Behrend suffered a slight stroke and was confined to his bed most of the time since then. Creeping paralysis developed later and it was known that his condition was critical.

Mr. Behrend came to Orange City in 1891 from Missouri. For a time he was employed and later became part owner of a livery business. He served as Sioux County’s Sheriff after the death of P.R. Schaap and for years he was assessor at Orange City. Until recent years he was secretary of the Sioux County fair, giving up this work when his health failed him and devoted his entire time to the insurance business.

He was 56 years old and is survived by his widow, Sophia Behrend and eight children.

John was buried at West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa.
