From the Alton Democrat, October 4, 1913: Rock Valley news:

Word was received here this week that J. H. Blatherwick, a former resident of Rock Valley, and a former member of the board of supervisors of Sioux county, died suddenly at his home at Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 17th and was buried on the 22nd. Our citizens will be sorry to learn of his sudden and unexpected demise as he was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him, both in social and business life.
