Lena Oden, 97, of Lakewood, CA, passed away Dec. 13, 1994. Born in Union County, SD, May 1, 1897, Lena was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George Frank. She moved with her family to Hawarden in 1903, and attended the public school in Hawarden. On March 13, 1918 she was united in marriage to Roy Oden. They farmed west of Hawarden until 1948 when they moved to Hawarden.

She moved to Malibu, CA in 1957 and to Lakewood, CA in 1968. In 1976 she was recognized as the Outstanding Older American in Lakewood for her many hours of volunteer service. She volunteered over 3,000 hours in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Long Beach, where she also received recognition from their Voluntary Service Program, and the Lakewood Pan-American Festival, Inc. She was also recognized for taking 500 lap robes to a convalescent home retarded children's home. She also worked for the RSVP program and volunteered in serving meals in Lakewood. She was active in the Lakewood senior citizens as a member of the Friendship Club and was a charter member of the Bloomfield Club. As the oldest member of The 500 Club, Lena was an active participant for over 20 years. She is survived by one son, LaMoine Oden.
