From the Rock Valley Bee, January 29, 1932:

Mrs. John Kurvink Died After Brief Illness

Mrs. John Kurvink, Sr., passed away at her home in Rock Valley Sunday afternoon [Jan. 24], following a brief illness with pneumonia. Although Mrs. Kurvink had not been in the best of health for some time past, she was not taken seriously ill until Friday and from that time on she failed rapidly until death claimed her.

Mrs. Kurvink was born at Valley Springs, S.D., September 18, 1888, where she spent practically all her life until sixteen years ago when she was united in marriage with John Kurvink, Sr., and came to Rock Valley to make her home. She was a woman who was respected by all who knew her; she was a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her two young daughters and other relatives.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Rock Valley on Tuesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. G. A. Tyler, having charge of the services. Besides her husband, Mrs. Kurvink leaves two daughters, Ruby, 12 years old and Virginia, 10 years old, and one son, Oscar Chipperfield by a former marriage, who lives at Br[letters missing], and who will see that the two younger children are properly cared for. She also leaves her mother, who lives at Ruthland, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Nelly Judy, of Graham, Mo., and Ms. Howard Liendt, of Granite, Iowa, and four brothers, Edward Tweedt, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Edmund Tweedt and Andrew Tweedt, of Granite, Iowa and a half brother, Elmer Danielson, of Garvin, Minn. All were present at the funeral services except Mrs. Judy who was unable to come.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Kurvink, Alma C., b. 1888 d. 1932 Mother Valley View Cem Rock Valley.

The 1925 Iowa State Census entry for her son Oscar provides more family information. Oscar (age 16) is living with his grandparents, Tom and Clara Twedt, in Lyon Township, Sioux County. His father is given as Newton Chipperfield, born Iowa, and his mother as Alma Twedt, age 37, born Iowa. (Alma and John Kurvink were not located in the 1925 Iowa census and may have been living in South Dakota).

South Dakota Marriages 1905-2013 shows Knewton Chipperfield, 39, a bachelor, marrying Alma Tadt, 23, a widow, both of Parker, Turner County, SD, on 7 Sep 1911. The South Dakota Death Index 1905-1955 and the FindaGrave website both show Newton Chipperfield, born Dec. 1870 in Wisconsin, dying on 29 Jan. 1916 in Minnehaha County, SD.

Alma married widower John Kurvink in April 1917. He died in August 1932 (see his obituary, posted separately). Her son Oscar was executor of her portion of their estate (announcement of sheriff's sale, Sioux Center News, Nov. 23, 1933).
