Mr. Gerrit Gesink, age 81, of Alton, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the Orange City Area Health System.
There will be no service at this time. The family may have a private prayer service at a later date.
Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Gerrit Harvey was born on April 1, 1934, in Orange City, the son of Gerrit and Bertha (Gesink) Gesink. He was raised in Orange City, where he attended the Christian School.
On January 29, 1954, he married Donna Jean Mulder in Le Mars. They made their home in Alton, where they were members of the Alton Reformed Church.
“Harvey” worked as a mechanic for the Ford Motor Company in Orange City and the Floyd Valley Community School District. He was also a member of the Sioux County Road Maintenance Crew.
Survivors include his wife of more than sixty years; two sons and their wives, Randy and Jane Gesink, of Alton, and Gary and Diane Gesink, of Hospers; a son-in-law, Chad Hansmann, of George; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Melissa Gesink, and their children Molly and Mason, of Granville; Brian and Heather Paulsen, and their children, Logan and Elijah, of Alton; Cody Gesink, and his special friend Stephanie Vander Wel, of Alton; Chris and Emily Gesink, of Bondurant; Mike and Jen Bosma, and their daughter, Brooke, of Hospers; Adam and Ashli Gesink, of Hartley; Ashley Gesink, and her special friend Seth Plendl, of Orange City; Adam and Kelly De Rocher, and their children, Carter, Drake, Camden, and Madison, of Le Mars; and Christopher Hansmann, of George; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Audrey Gesink, of Orange City; a sister, Elizabeth Doppenberg, of Sioux Center; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Schuver, of Sanborn, and Linda, and her husband, Dennis Zwagerman, of Phoenix, Arizona; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Nancy Mulder, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri.
In addition to his parents and Donna’s parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Gesink; a daughter, Julie Hansmann; a daughter-in-law, Betty Stitzman; two brothers, Gerrit Henry Gesink, and Bert Gesink, and his wife Arlene; and three brothers-in-law, Bernie Doppenberg; Ray Schuver; and Darwin Mulder, and his wife, Bonnie.
