June 30, 1934 - December 23, 2015

Jennie Van Engelenhoven, 81, of Sioux Center, IA, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A visitation will be held on Monday, 12/28, from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 12/29, at 10:30AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Travis Else officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Jennie Van Engelenhoven was born to Tom and Lucy (Vander Pol) Zeilstra on June 30, 1934, in Worthing, South Dakota. As a child, Jennie’s family settled near Beresford, South Dakota where she attended country school through the 8th grade. Jennie was united in marriage to Gerrit Van Engelenhoven on May 24, 1956 in Orange City, Iowa.

After living in Hills, Minnesota, Jennie and Gerrit made their home in Sioux Center, Iowa in 1967, where they raised their three children. Over the years she employed as a cook at Holland House, Holiday Lanes and Casey’s Bakery. Jenny spent 17 loving years as a Foster Grandparent at Kinsey Elementary School. She was a devoted member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Jennie enjoyed writing in her journal daily, making baby blankets, canning and baking delicious pies.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gerrit Van Engelenhoven of Sioux Center; her children: Gary Van Engelenhoven of Lake Zurich, IL; Brenda Van Engelenhoven of Sioux Center and Tim Van Engelenhoven of Ft. Wayne, IN; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother, John Zeilstra of Minden, MO; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Tillie Zeilstra of Canton, SD; sister, Albertha Van Roekel of Sioux Center; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Wilbur De Jong of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Luther Zeilstra; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Zeilstra and brother-in-law, John Van Roekel.
