Sylvia DeKok, age 96, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Rev. David Van Kley officiating.

Burial to follow at Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa.

There will be no visitation.

Sylvia DeKok was born on June 9, 1919 in Hospers, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank and Cornelia (DeVries) DeKok. At the age of five, Sylvia moved with her family to a farm near Archer, Iowa where she attended a country school. The first bus she rode to school was horse drawn. When she was a young woman, during the depression, she went by train to Chicago, Illinois to work as a nanny for a couple of years. Sylvia later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to work at Macy's Department Store. In 1985, she retired and moved to Sheldon, Iowa. She later moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon.
Sylvia enjoyed traveling and embroidering.
She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Sylvia passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are one sister, Eva Dow of Sparta, MI, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers: Clarence Brink, John Brink, Henry Brink, Daniel DeKok, Arie DeKok, Paul DeKok, Gerben DeKok and Bert DeKok; six sisters: Marie Ostenink, Suzanne Brink, Betty Donkersloot, Florence Grotenhuis, Katherine Vogel and Sue DeKok.
