Clarissa Dekker, 67, of Hospers, died Thursday, November 2, 1989, at the hospital in Orange City due to a sudden illness. Services were held Monday, November 6, at the Newkirk Reformed Church, with the Rev. Kevin Ver Hoeven officiating. Burial was in the Newkirk Cemetery.

Mrs. Dekker, the former Clarissa De Jong, was born November 1, 1922 in Ireton, the daughter of Otto and Susie (Postma) De Jong. She married Gerrit Dekker February 19, 1943, at Maurice. They lived in the Hospers area for the past 36 years. Mrs. Dekker was a part time cook at the Highway Cafe, in Hospers for 20 years. She was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church and the Mission Fellowship Society.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Wendell, of Hospers; a daughter, Debra, of Hartford, CT; and a sister, Jeanette De Jong, of Sioux Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wendell and Laurence De Jong.
