Mrs. Ruth Slater Ruth Slater, 81, a former Hawarden resident, died suddenly Thursday, July
14 in Phoenix, AZ where she had lived the past 11 years. Visitations were held in Phoenix Friday, July 15 and in St. Paul Sunday, July 17. Services were Monday, July 18 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with burial there beside her husband. Mr. Slater died in November, 1970.

Mrs. Slater was born November 25, 1906 in Lexington, NE. She and her family lived in Hawarden a number of years before moving to Sioux City and then to St. Paul, MN. Due to failing health, she moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1977 to be near her daughter. She was a member of American Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include three duaghters, Jocelyn Brodeen, Avon, SD, Lorraine Olson, Phoenix, AZ, and Carole Stevenson, Charleston, SC; two sisters, Beatrice Earll arid Alls Holmberg, both of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Ida Doughtery, of St. Paul; a brother-in law, H. A. Ellison, of Fort Wayne, IN; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and two nephews, Connie O'Connor, of Phoenix, AZ and James Holmberg, of Sioux Falls
