Charles H. "Bo" Sedgwick, Jr., 72, died in Hawarden Monday night, September 21,1987. A prayer service will be held at Dow Funeral Home Wednesday, September 23, at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 24, at United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Charles H. "Bo" Sedgwick Jr., 72, of Hawarden, died Monday, September 21,1987, in Hawarden. Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 24, in the United Methodist Church, in Hawarden. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m., September 23, at the Dow Funeral Home, in Hawarden. Active pallbearers were E. V. Slife, Jr., George Wood, Bentpn Boyer, Robert Scroggs, D. K. Carsten and Ray Rummel. Honorary pallbearers were James Anderson, James Skogman, Rex Truesdell, Loren Swanson, Willis Frank, Elwood Bolster, Melvin Hulleman and E. V. Slife, Sr.

Mr. Sedgwick, the son of Charles H. and Anna Cowen Sedgwick, was born in Hawarden on January 30, 1915. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1934 and received a BS degree from the University of South Dakota in 1938, where he was a member of the varsity football team and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He married Mary Dunlap July 20,1940, in Onawa. Mr. Sedgwick served as one of the first members of the Iowa Highway Patrol until he entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He served as a captain in North Africa for three years. He was active in civic affairs in . Hawarden. Mr. Sedgwick served as mayor of Hawarden from 1948 until 1956 and from 1968 until 1970. He was secretary of the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was a member of the Hawarden Fire Department for 25 years and former secretary of the department. He was instrumental in the building of the Hawarden swimming pool and served on the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank for 18 years. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW and Eagles Lodge. In 1970, he moved to Tequesta, FL and returned to Hawarden September 17,1987.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Charles H. Ill, of Richfield, MN, and Tom, of Parker, SD; one MN, and Tom, of Parker, SD; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Norum, of Brea, CA; three sisters, Helen Akin, Martha Taggart and Lois Taggart, all of Hawarden; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, John and James Norum, Michael, David, Angela, Bill and Jeff Sedgwick. He was proceeded in death by his parents; one son, Bill in 1965 and one daughter, Anne in 1971
