Memorial Tribute

Adriana Hillene (Pals) Van Iperen was born on January 13, 1925 at Hull, IA, the daughter of Charlotte (Otten) and Emery Pals. She attended school in Hull and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1942. Following high school, Adriana obtained her teaching certificate from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, and taught at country schools in Sioux County.
On July 3, 1945, Adriana married Burt Van Iperen. The couple was blessed with four children: Donald, Jo, Lori and Jim. They lived at Sheldon, Hartley, Rock Valley, and Melvin, IA, farming for many years until moving to the town of Hartley in 1982. There they owned and managed rental property, were custodians at the United Methodist Church, and operated the V.I.P Café for a few years. Adriana always enjoyed visiting with people who stopped in at the café. In their retirement years, she and Burt traveled together, visiting many areas throughout the United States, and often pulled their camper behind for the night's lodging.
Following Burt's death in 1999, Adriana kept busy volunteering with community clubs and organizations, at church, and at the nursing home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley, as well as a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was very musical and enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing organ and piano. An excellent seamstress, she loved making clothes for her grandchildren. She was also an avid reader. In October, 2013, Adriana became a resident of Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley where she passed from this life on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the age of 90.
