Funeral services for Mrs. Ike Hamersma, 70, former Hawarden resident who died in a Willmar, Minnesota Nursing Home Wednesday of last week following a number of strokes, were held at the Porter Funeral Home at Inwood, Iowa, at 1:30 Saturday and at 2 o’clock in the First Reformed Church there, Reverend R.J. Rozeboom officiating. Interment was in Richland Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamersma, the former Wilhelmina (Minnie) Vande Hoef, was the oldest of ten children, having been born in The Netherlands January 13, 1893. She came to this country with the family and married Ike Hamersma at Ireton on February 10, 1915.

They settled at Hawarden, residing on the Schoeneman farm south of town until 1932 when they moved to Ireton. Mr. Hamersma died in 1960. Following his death she made her home with a daughter at Maynard, Minnesota and at the nursing home in Willmar.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Albert Doktor of Bellflower, California, and Mrs. Rodney Gordon of Maynard; two sons, John of Norco, California and Jim of Artesia, California; five brothers, Tunis, John, and Joe Vande Hoef all of Ireton, Ed Vande Hoef of Hawarden and Richard Vande Hoef of Inglewood, California; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, Mrs. Bert De Yager and Mrs. Dreka Kooi, both of Hawarden, and Mrs. Frank Vander Feen of Ireton; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, Mrs. Fred Holtop, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vander Feen, John and Joe Vande Hoel, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Winterfeld and Mr. and Mrs. Tunis Vande Hoef, all of Ireton, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vande Hoef, Charlene and Dick, Mr. and Mrs. Bert De Yager, Mrs. Dreka Kooi, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hamersma, Ben and Martin Hamersma and Henry Stoltenberg, all of Hawarden.
