Leon L. (Jake) Marshall, 56, was stricken with a heart attack after playing golf in the two-ball tournament at the Hawarden course Thursday evening. He was taken to the Hawarden Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival of the attending physician. Mrs. Marshall was with him.

The Hudson man who played golf here many times in the past couple of years, had suffered a heart attack six years ago following which he discontinued working, but in recent years was employed as bulk agent for the Standard Oil Company there.

Funeral services were held in the Hudson Lutheran Church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Reverend Oliver Everson officiating. Burial was at Eden Cemetery at Hudson.

Pall bearers were Robert Duncan, Sidney Brown, Harold Smith, Orland Steinfadt, Robert Horst and John Gilman.

Honorary pall bearers were Donald Heuphreus, William Fitzgerald, Oscar C. Larsen, Wilbur Dixon, Chris Serek, Alvin Lingscheit, Albert Schlup, Gaile Villier, Clif Jenkins and Jay Angle.

Mr. Marshall was born near Hudson January 6, 1907, a son of Charles and Josie Marshall, the latter having resided in Hawarden several years before her death.

After graduating from high school he attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls.

He married Palma Torkelson on September 6, 1934, and the couple farmed near Hudson before moving into town. He was associated with Standard Oil the past 28 years.

He was confirmed member of the Hudson Lutheran Church and served on the Hudson school board and with the fire department there for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by the widow; a son, Charles, of Long Beach, California; two daughters both of whom graduated from South Dakota State College at Brookings and are teaching. Barbara in Giessen, Germany and Jane in Denver; a brother, Harley Marshall of Hudson, and two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Nygaard of Fairview, South Dakota, and Mrs. Ed J. Schmidt of Rock Valley.

A large number of persons from Hawarden were among those attending the funeral.
