Obituary for Scott M. Streff

Scott M. Streff, 64, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Windmill Manor in Coralville under hospice care.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Scott’s life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City.

A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IA with inurnment services to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton.

Scott was born on November 30, 1950, in Alton, IA, the son of Arnold and Patricia (Mann) Streff. He was raised in Alton and was a graduate of Spalding High School in Granville, IA. He studied European music at Briar Cliff University and later went on to graduate from The University of Iowa with studies in voice and piano.

Scott was a fabulous singer, pianist, was a member of the Iowa ACLU, and served as a board member for the Iowa City Chamber Singers. He worked as a bus driver for both CAMBUS and the city of Iowa City, and also credits The United States Postal Service for “paying him to exercise” for 30 years. Scott was also a strong supporter of the arts, classical music, and progressive causes, and he was never shy in sharing his love of science fiction, classical music, crossword puzzles, word games, puns and the “proper” use of the English language. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his father Arnold, a sister Pam (Bill) Meyers, and a brother Steve (Deb) Streff all of Alton, IA, a sister Barb (Paul) Grachek of White Bear Lake, MN, nieces and nephews: Sara, Christopher, Holly, Kari, Dana, Matt, Anna and Sara and four great-nephews: Nicholas, Ryan, Logan and Daniel. Scott was preceded in death by his mother.
